What is MEU Mainz (MEUM)? One of last year’s participants put it in a nutshell: “international atmosphere, acquiring knowledge, skills and friendships, visiting and experiencing a beautiful state – Germany”. It is a project which simulates the European decision-making process between the European Parliament and the Council of the European Union and makes 80 young people from all over the world slip into the roles of Members of Parliament, Ministers of the Council and Journalists in a 5-day event in the city of Mainz, Germany from the 6th-10th of June 2012.

It was first established in 2010 on the premises of the Johannes Gutenberg-University and it is organised by three partners: BETA, AEGEE andthe Department of Political Science at Mainz University.

MEUM is a spin-off of MEU Strasbourg, the large-scale EU simulation annually organised by the Bringing Europeans Together Association (BETA). Besides the simulation which features “the general atmosphere of professionalism on the one hand and relaxed informal parts on the other hand”- as a former participant put it- we offer a wide social programme including a wine tasting of local wines, a pub crawl and a European night.

In order to apply you will have to write an essay on one EU-related topic- further information as well as the application form can be found on our website www.meumainz.eu. Beware, the application period ends on the 9th of April!

Looking forward to your application,

Your MEUM 2012-Team

We are proud to present our three media partners: the European Commission, EuroparlTV and EUradioNantes. Our partners will help us raise awareness about our project and allow many more people to get the taste of the Conference.

EuroparlTV was launched in September 2008 and it is the official online webcasting platform of the European Parliament (EP). Its main objective is to inform European citizens about EP’s activities. EuroparlTV provides a wide variety of services, which include live streaming of parliamentary sessions and committee meetings but also educational videos. All of the videos are available in 22 official languages of the European Union. In MEU 2012, EuroparlTV will shoot a promotional video, broadcast and promote it. It is actually an audio-visual coverage of our event in the form of the "Close to you" programme, published on EuroparlTV’s website. This is just the first step in our collaboration since EuroparlTV will also help us raise awareness about MEU 2013 in the coming autumn!

The European Commission offered us the opportunity to live-stream parts of our Conference. The parts which will be streamed are Topic Workshops I and II on Sunday, the introduction of the two Proposals in the Parliament during the simulation, the whole Conference day on Monday, the final voting and the Panel Discussion on Friday. More information on the exact time and the link to click on will be available soon!

EUradioNantes will prepare a special page covering the event, including podcasts, photos, videos, and links. The radio will also provide a daily coverage in the programme “English for everyone”. Stay tuned for more information.
